We did another shoot last night with Maya Homerton, the sultry Spanish lady with the amazing tattoos. The initial idea was just to have a play session and experiment with new ties but Nina suggested it was also a good chance to try out the new lighting. The idea was to do a shoot inspired by my idol, Sugiura Norio, with some old style rope work. After making a few adjustments to our lighting set up of the first shoot of Maya and I, I think we got a lot closer to the look I wanted in the second.
Nina did a fantastic job in shooting my work as she is also a big Sugiura fan and knew exactly what I was looking for. I think you will be amazed by her tying in the second shoot. All the pictures apart from the one below are all her rope work. Those countless hours studying and restudying every kinbaku book and DVD I possess are clearly paying dividends (see header photo and above). Here are a few that I have edited so far, more to follow when I get a moment. Trips to book, visa applications, orders to process, events to organise…no rest for the wicked but the fringe benefits are good.
As you can see, we have been finding new uses for the shinai.
