Something for nothing
Unsurprisingly, ShibariClasses has a very high proportion of students who have only signed up for the free shibari tutorials. After all, who doesn’t like something for nothing? The problem is that free material is made up for the good, the bad and the ugly. The Catch 22 is that unless you know enough to tell them apart, you are playing Russian roulette with your partner’s safety at worst or, at least, risk learning poor technique. Of course, as with many skills, you don’t know what you don’t know. By the time you have enough knowledge to tell good from bad, you probably don’t need the basic tutorials that are available for free.
The ease of shooting and uploading shibari tutorials to YouTube and the like is a double-edged sword. Any idiot can do it, which is exactly the problem. Thus, ‘any idiot’ could be showing dangerous techniques or instilling bad habits. They could have learned yesterday! The removal of the thumbs-down Dislike display on YouTube has made matters worse as there’s no way to know how Likes vs Dislikes.
“A deep, wholehearted THANK YOU for what you’re doing and the excellent work you’re putting into it. My skill set wouldn’t be near what it is if it wasn’t for you, Nina, & ShibariClasses” Blink
The only way to tell tutorials apart
The only way to tell these free shibari tutorials apart is to compare them. Very many free rope bondage tutorials are shot wide-angle with a single camera, more as a demonstration than a tutorial. To properly see the detail, you need clear close-ups from a second camera. Then, to fully understand what has been done and why, you need an explanation. In our tutorials on ShibariClasses, we provide both. We show every step with high-resolution close-ups and a full explanation. That’s the difference between a demonstration and a shibari tutorial.
Learn shibari, not just patterns
We make learning simple by using our ingredients-based method. To use a culinary parallel, we teach you how a few basic ingredients (a few knots and frictions) can be used and adapted to make any recipe (tie) that you chose. Rather than be restricted to recipes (ties) that you have learned parrot-fashion, you will become as master chef who can mix, match and adapt recipes using the rules that apply to the ingredients. You will learn this through ties and their variations.
Connection is the essence of shibari
We want you learn shibari, not just patterns. Connection is the essence of shibari, to be able to use the rope as a language, a tool of communication. This requires fluency, not just a phrase book. This has always been the focus of the way we teach. This less obvious side of shibari was what first attracted me. Fortunately, my style of tying and teaching has been influenced by direct tuition by Osada Steve and Yukimura Haruki, both masters of connective tying. Thus, our tutorials will teach you a lot of secrets of how to communicate with rope. You owe it to your partner to discover this and it’s what shibari is all about.
“I was actually able to get my princess into subspace with rope for the first time using the techniques you taught in the videos” – Nerdy_Sir
