#Bound, by Vidar Solaas, is a rather unique shibari photography book, available to pre-order through Kickstarter right now. The book is over 250 pages long, available in hardcover only, and printed on the highest quality paper from an environmentally friendly printers. The photos are all shot outdoors in spectacular Norway, and at historic sites to boot. Each photo has three elements to it: The model’s body, the ropes and the location the photo is shot in. There are no props, no clothing or other “distractions”.
The accompanying texts provide facts about the locations and the ties used, and some amusing anecdotes from the photoshoots. Working with naked, tied-up people in public places can lead to quite interesting situations! It is first and foremost a photography book, though, consisting of more than 80% photographs. #Bound is exclusive to Kickstarter, so the ongoing campaign is your one and only chance to get a copy for yourself. At the moment of writing this, the campaign has been live for just three days and it’s already two thirds of the way to reaching its goal, so it certainly looks like #Bound is going to be a success.

#Bound pre-orders The only way you can be sure to get your hands on a copy of #Bound is to order via Kickstarter.com. Since many people have not used Kickstarter before and do not know what it is, I will provide a little clarification here. To address the most common misconception first, Kickstarter is not an ordinary online store. Launched in 2009, Kickstarter is the world’s first, largest and most trusted website for crowd funding. It is a way for creative people to finance the production of what they have created. It is all based on pre-orders of products that do not exist yet. If you want to buy my book you must place an order on Kickstarter. You pay nothing at the time you place your order. It is only when the campaign is over (November 1st) that you pay for the book, and that only happens if there are enough orders for me to pay the printers to produce the book. If there are not enough orders, then no one needs to pay anything, but then there will be no book either! How many books I can order from the printer depends entirely on how many pre-orders I get on Kickstarter. I live on disability benefits and can’t afford to print a lot of extra books. I’ve already stretched my finances to the breaking point with all the traveling I’ve done to get all the photos for #Bound. I know that many of you thought it was a bit too complicated to use Kickstarter and figured that you can wait and buy the book directly from me when it has been produced, but if you think like that there is a big risk that you won’t get a book. And if enough people think like that, then there won’t be a book at all! Instead, try to figure out Kickstarter one more time. It’s not as complicated as you think, and please feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Some folks have tried to use Kickstarter’s “Sign in with Facebook” or “Sign in with Apple” features, only to be frustrated when it didn’t work the way they expected. The explanation is simply that you must first have a Kickstarter account to log in to for those buttons to work. If this is your first time using Kickstarter, you must register and get a user account with them before placing your order. If there’s anything at all you’re not sure about, just send me a message and I’ll be happy to guide you through the entire process!
Kind regards, Vidar.
