My daughter, Kezia, has always had a great sense of style and, as she says, is never knowingly under-dressed. Consequently, she and her splendidly moustachioed husband, David aka Mr Wax of Wax Industries (purveyors of fine grooming products for gentlemen), are frequently photographed at Torture Garden and retro events. Over the years her passion for making outfits, head wear and accessories has caused many a friend to ask “Would you make me one of those?”. Gradually, this has started to blossom into a business, Kezia Argue Designs, and is now attracting enquiries and interest from some very high profile names. Judging by her latest creation, a ‘shibari chapeau’, which she models below, there must be rope in the genes. Although this one was all her own idea, she has asked me for some ideas for other rope work. So, there might be a series.
It’s nice to see, shibari creeping into fashion and the arts. There have been quite a few examples over the past year or so. One of the highest profile has been Araki, of course. Even I have worked on projects for Vogue, Sange Bleu, Wallpaper, LOVE and .Cent, no doubt others can add to the list. Good Lord! There’s a danger of shibari becoming almost respectable!
