I have to say I think the design of this MA1 jacket by Phenomenon owes more to hojojutsu than shibari (original blog post />) but, either way, it can’t be denied that it is a statement. What that statement is I will leave you to decide. Anyway, guaranteed ice-breaker at parties but maybe not ideal for interviews or court appearances.
The single arm wraps, designed to impinge the nerves to impede a prison’s ability to escape, and the diamond pattern are very typical of hojo style. I’m sure it would turn a few heads on your local high street and leave nobody in much doubt about your interests. Somehow, I don’t think you’ll be seeing me in one anytime soon 🙂 At 89,250JPY, or about $1,300/£720, maybe you won’t either?
It is described thus “PHENOMENON is turning up the heat with this unusual Shibari MA-1 jacket. Whether you are into bondage or not, this jacket will definitely get the heads turning for a second look. An ordinary MA-1 jacket is used as a base with the thick ropes stitched onto it to mimic the bondage style making the wearer looking as if he is all tied up. The magic unravels when the front knots are taken apart and the tricky construction is revealed. It comes in black or moss green colors with safety orange inner lining.”
Phenomenon’s site is, as you would expect, balls-achingly trendy. Although, by the time you have waded through all the flashy graphics, you might well have lost the will to live. I think it is a case of form over function.
