What do you get if you cross my best-selling Tossa with Osaka, which is as close as it comes to Japanese pro rope? The bastard off-spring combines the best of both! Okinawa is latest addition to ESINEM-Rope‘s extensive jute shibari rope range which fits neatly between Osaka and Tossa for those like the flexibility and loose lay of Osaka but want a more durable rope that doesn’t need to be wet treated. Like Tossa, it employs double yarns (6 per ply) to give it longevity and good resistance to high-stranding (going out of balance).
Like my other loose laid ropes, it can be used right away but is even nicer after oiling and burning off. As you can see, it’s natural colour is a dark gold and the fibre is very clean. Compared to single yarn ropes, it is much more forgiving of rough handling and has a little more heft to it. The fibre is much nicer than Tossa Lite, another double yarn loose laid rope, and it is an altogether more substantial rope. I think we have a winner here!
