A few months ago, I worked on the ‘What lies beneath‘ shoot for LOVE magazine with a highly prestigious team:
Models: Lara Stone, Mariacarla Boscono, Saskia de Brauw, Kristen McMenamy, Anais Pouliot, Guinevere van Seenus & Xiao Wen Ju.
Photographers: Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott
Stylist: Katie Grand
I tied Saksia de Brauw and Kristen McMenamy, then supended Guinevere van Seenus. Hats off to Kristen who was totally immobilised and photographed as she sunk to the bottom of Pinewood’s underwater set. It has now been made into a short film, What lies beneath.
The series has attracted many criticisms for plagiarising Jeff Bark ‘s ‘Woodpecker’ shoot. It is undeniable there are many common features and, to the untrained eye, it would be hard to tell which shot was by whom. There is an interesting analysis on this blog.
Whether you call it as plagiarism or being inpired by Woodpecker, I love the results and was delighted to be able to contribute to such a prestigious shoot…not to mention tie up some top fashion models; all of whom defied the stereotypical image of brattish divas the media love to portray. They were delightful, down to earth and a pleasure to work with but I guess they wouldn’t have got where they are otherwise.
