Due to some testing to improve speed of the front end of this site, I changed one of the plugins as we suspected it of causing some issues. A side effect of this was rendering some of the videos in the old galleries inoperable (the Members’ Area was unaffected). Stupidly, after making teh change, I checked a video that happened not to be using that plugin and thought they were all still working. Clearly, a senior moment. Anyway, I have swapped it back so they should all be OK again.
Behind the scenes, the new server has finally been commissioned and I did a spot of testing last night; it flies! With the updates, it is now running lean and mean software that will not only run faster but will now take full advantage of the six core processor. Apparently, the original set up only used one processor which sounds like buying a car with a V-6 and disconnecting five of the spark plugs. Yes, I’m asking myself “Why?” too. It looks like all that needs to be done is for a missing directory to be transferred and the latest posts added, then it will be good to go. I’m hoping we can do the swap over in the next day or two. I’m out on a shoot in a minute with a rather well-know designer so I won’t get much chance today to look at it. With any luck, the techies will get the final stuff across today so I can do a final check before flipping the site over to the new server.
