Google Translate rendered the latter as “模倣はお世辞の最も誠実な形です”, which I thought I had better add in case Mr Araki happens to be looking at this. Nina and I did a shoot with Spanish photographer, Antonia Peña, and our one of our favourite models’ MaYa Homerton a few months back but now the magazine, Primera Linea, is out we can spill the beans.
Antonia has been a professional photographer since 2002, having built her business in Madrid (Spain), and is now establishing herself in London as a prominent fashion (glamour) and food photographer. Antonia started her artistic career by doing selfportraits and becoming an artist of Dolores de Sierra Gallery in Madrid, holding exhibitions worldwide (TIAF Toronto (Canada) 2005, Manage Museum (Russia) 2005, Art Fair “DEARTE” Palacio de Congresos de Madrid Cultural Center, Madrid (Spain) 2008, “Re-Género” exhibition at Cultural Center of Spain in Lima (Peru) 2009…) and Spain main cities. After becoming internationally recognized as an artist, she began to make covers for important magazines like Playboy or Interviú (Spanish magazine) among others.
In the most part, the brief was to recreate some of Araki‘s iconic photos which turned out to be deceptively tortuous for MaYa. I think we did some very close copies. You can play the old ‘spot the difference game’ if you want.
Here is one of Nina’s ties and you can see the rest in the Gallery.
