EsinemUk hacked
Please help me restore my original EsinemUK Instagram account. I will explain how at the end of this article.
Back in May, I was stupid enough to fall for a trick that gave a hacker control of my EsinemUK Instagram account. Here’s what happened: I had a message from a good friend asking to vote for her for some kind of award and respond with the link it returned. Sending a link should have been a big red flag but I was a bit distracted at the time as I was out and about. Of course, it was the lost password link and the hacker changed everything: my phone number to his Nigerian one, the email, password and even the account name to esinemuk_6543.
I have since created a new account in the original EsinemUK name. However, I haven’t had time to post any content yet due to wrangling with Instagram and Facebook support and the sale of ESINEM-Rope. I will get onto that very shortly.
2FA problems
As a result of the hack, I set up 2FA on my accounts for ShibariClasses and ESINEM-Rope to enhance security. Unfortunately, the courier, who came to collect the stock that I was transferring to the new owners of ESINEM-Rope, stole my phone. The snag was that I had not appreciated that my backup only restored apps and not the logins for Authenticator. Consequently, I am now locked out of these accounts as I was unaware of the need the have backup codes. Lesson learned the hard way.
Instagram support is useless
Like many big organisations, such as Google, Instagram support is useless. I have been trying since May to regain my original EsinemUK account by reporting esinemuk_6543 as impersonating me. Most of their replies say they are not currently able to review it due to COVID related staff shortages.
I did get a reply asking for me to verify my ID but apparently what I supplied wasn’t accepted. I asked why but they reverted to the too busy reply shown above. I am hoping if enough people report the issue it might become one of the most urgent cases. According to this article in the New York Post, offering sexual favours can help but, so far, my offers have fallen on deaf ears. I can’t imagine why!
Facebook support is even worse
I have tried to regain access via the ShibariClasses and ESINEM-Rope pages in Facebook since there is a facility to link pages, due to both apps being owned by Meta. It seems Facebook support is even worse than Instagram. The option to report the issue just says it is unable to do so, please try later.
How you can help
As I said in the beginning, I will explain how you can help. I would be very grateful if you would report the esinemuk_6543 profile for impersonation. There are four options but, other than ‘Me’, I think any of them would work. I am wondering if ‘A business or organisation’ might be the best as I can show a business registration for Esinem and prove ownership of the other businesses mentioned in the profile. My ID might have failed as there is only a partial face image of me.
Reporting is simple:
1) Access esinemuk_6543
2) Click the 3 dots to the right of Follow
3) Select Report
4) Select Report Account
5) Select It’s pretending to be someone else
6) Select any option except Me.
7) Close the window
Here’s a video but this example shows selecting ‘Somebody I know’. I suggest ‘Someone I know’.
Reporting will only take a minute or two but would help me a lot. Thanks.
