The time has come to establish an ‘inner circle’ for those with a serious interest in kinbaku to enable them to further their skills under expert guidance. The idea is for a mentored workshop, where participants can practice, ask advice, watch and meet others or have their work critiqued. This goes beyond the peer workshop concept as there is always the guarantee of highly qualified instruction. Is not as formal or structured as a class and far less expensive, yet offers the flexibility of private tuition. As there is no pre-determined agenda, anyone is free to raise any subject. There are similar groups in Japan which combine learning and socialising very successfully. I see no reason this model should not work here.
Numbers will be strictly limited so that everyone can be assured of the attention they need. Initially, the group would meet for three hours every month on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm but this could well be extended or made more regular if they demand is there. The meeting will be called ‘The Knot’ and the first meeting will be 4pm, Sunday, 19 February. The ticket price for student with model is £20 or £12 for singles.
I will be using the usual venue in Camberwell, SE London. In addition to the area that I normally use for classes, the traditionally styled tatami mat room will also be available; both rooms have multiple suspension points. Address and directions sent upon receipt of booking.
