Clara Premium has finally arrived and it’s undoubtedly the best jute shibari yet! This one is really going to give the Japanese a run for their money. After two years of testing and tweaking, you can now no longer have to compromise. Clara Premium brings the durability and stability of double yarn with the lightness, softness and, handling of top-grade Japanese asanawa.
I originally listed it as NoName but we ran a competition and two people came up with ‘Clara’. We liked the name, as in European languages, it has meanings like “clear, bright, famous”.
Why is Clara Premium so special?
Good question! Here’s why Clara Premium is so special:
Each of the three strands has 7 sub-plies/strands, each of 5 yarns twisted together. The reason for this construction is to create a super flexible, smooth, loose-laid rope that is also durable and forgiving of rough handling. With this rope, you’ll get the best of both worlds, long life with optimum feel and handling. It is much less likely to suffer the problems typical of many loose-laid single-yarn ropes, where they tend to go out of balance easily and high-strand, ie. when you catch a strand accidentally and it goes out of kilter.
It’s sweet-smelling due to eco-friendly production methods which eliminate potentially carcinogenic chemicals and wet treating is entirely pointless as it is perfect right off the reel. Just oil and go; even burning off isn’t essential as there’s almost no hairiness.
This rope measures 5.9mm off the reel, so you might take it to be a bit thinner. Bear in mind that most rope is about 5-10% over the nominal size to allow for stretch and so as not to be under specification. After use, it is likely to settle down at around 5.5mm, which I regard as the ideal diameter. The weight is 15.5g per meter, making it fast and ‘flickable’ when tying.
