Justine & Juliette are happy to once more present ESINEM for a shibari workshop. Shibari is like an iceberg, the greater part of it is hidden. Most people only see the small part that is obvious to all: beautiful ties. The secret is not in the tie but in how you do it.
The principal applies as much to using single rope as to a complex suspension, as much to untying as tying. Rope is a language, so you need to be able to use it coherently with the right intonation, punctuation, emphasis and volume. In other words, the rope must express what you are trying to say in terms of force, tempo, tension and speed. One also builds on this with other stimuli such as sound and body position. If you fail to do so, your tying can be as dull and monotonous as a computer reading text.
In this session, we will explore ways to make the rope at tool of communication, an extension of your hands and will. After 1,000’s of sessions and shows, years of teaching and tuition by some of Japan’s most respected masters, we have amassed a huge range of tips and tricks. These will not only help you to create a really intense session for your partner but also to be able to tie faster, smarter and with far greater confidence.
The class is applicable to all levels as the techniques can be applied, regardless of experience. As they can be practised with just a single rope, it is a perfect starting point for beginners as they will produce results without needing to know a lot of fancy ties.
More advanced students will find it adds a whole new dimension to their tying and will gain an introduction to urawaza, the hidden techniques. Just let us know if you have any questions. – Get your tickets here.
