Over the past couple of weeks, I was honoured with my first fake Twitter profile, @TheRealEsinem, which was posting moronic and egotistically antagonistic Tweets. The profile photo was a crop of one stolen from my Facebook profile.
I thought it was only politicians and celebrities who were thus recognised with plagiarism and fake profiles; does that mean I have finally arrived? 🙂 Probably not, it’s more likely the work of a ‘bear of little brain’ who thinks it’s a clever way to discredit me.
No harm done as all recipients of Tweets from the fake profile, who were thankfully few, received messages from me pointing out the ID hijacking and were added to my lists. Anyway, it was a relatively simple matter to get Twitter to suspend the profile which removed all the associated Tweets.
Very rapidly, a phoenix profile arose, @Esinem’s_Ego, making more silly Tweets but, at least, it adds a bit of spice to entertain my followers. I feel a bit guilty replying as one shouldn’t really engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man 🙂 No doubt Twitter will also remove this profile shortly too.
Perhaps it’s a coincidence that these profiles appeared just around the time that I got my first Facebook ban in ages and of the whole Wildies/LFRA debacle? We have received threats of violence from organiser, JackWhipper, including the offer to “tear (me) a new arse-hole”. Clover resigned after being asked what response they were making after having had a further abuse complaint concerning Wildties and WykD_Dave distanced himself from LFRA. I can’t think of any others with a current motive. Can you?
Even if it is nothing to do with any of them, the fake profiler has been made aware of the suspicions that his activities cast so is clearly determined to discredit Wildties and LFRA organisers further by persisting. Either way, it seems an own goal as it reflects very poorly on all concerned. It’s bad enough for LFRA to ignore abuse complaints whilst, at the same time, championing a vetting procedure and overturning a previous performer ban but to withdraw LFRA guest-list, block us both, libel Nina and physically threaten me is quite another. Fake Twitter profiles really would be a somewhat superfluous cherry on the cake.
