I really must apologise for the site outages this week. I have been trying to get to the bottom of the issue but am getting confusing replies.
Some months ago, I was told that my server needed upgrading to a new 100% reliable Xen server, so that’s what I did (see header image). When this made only a minor improvement, I was told that installing NGIX would be the answer to a maiden’s prayer and would easily cope with 400-600 concurrent users. I bit the bullet and had this installed, expecting it to be like shit off a Teflon coated shovel but once again I noticed little difference. In spite of the quoted capability being closer to my number of daily visitors, rather than concurrent users which only number a handful, I’m now told I need a further upgrade to the same system as used by Facebook etc. which permits 10,000 concurrent users! This seems like buying a hospital when all you need is an aspirin I’d be sitting on the beach and using £50 notes as toilet paper while my minions ran my empire if I had a tiny fraction of that number of users on at a time. Mark Zuckerberg, I am not!
If I don’t get some sensible answers pretty soon, it might mean a complete new site 🙁 If it becomes necessary, you can be sure I will choose a one stop solution with a single butt to kick if it doesn’t work. It might mean that the site will look a little different but the important thing for me is to ensure my users have a 100% reliable site with good response times.
