There’s been a bit of discussion on Fetlife recently about single column ties and I have posted a couple of tutorials in response, e.g. a simple rule for the single column tie. This has veered off into discussion of the Somerville whch has many advantages. However, I haven’t mastered the knack of tying it with the same fluidity and control as the traditional method. Anyway, I have added a couple of tutorials produced by others. I have to say I’m gob-smacked by the speed of the Lunatic Method. I clearly need to practice this one 🙂
We made two tutorials tonight to illustrate the use of a variant of the knot used to close a single colum tie. It can be used as a much more secure alternative to ‘burning the bight’ and to solve the problem of creating a secondary single column tie. For example, you have tied one limb but you wish to secure this to another or an object like a pole by continuing with the same rope. The problem comes when you want to tie off the cuff in a way that won’t slip. The method shown is an elegant solution that also saves a lot of unnecessary pulling through.
