We have just uploaded Shibari Suspension Techniques: Part I, the most in-depth Japanese bondage suspension tutorials ever. We have set the price at a ridiculously low $5 per month, so you really have noting to lose and plenty to gain. I’m sure you wouldn’t begrudge us the price of a beer for just a couple of the tips you’ll pick up, never mind what it could save you. Join us now and start becoming a better rigger.
Over the next week or so, we plan to add some more videos and articles as all our material evolves and is updated. We are sure you will find the answers to many of your questions as we, and our numerous students, have trodden this path before. If you don’t, you can get an answer from the ‘Ask Esinem & Nina’ Q&A forum.
Part II will get a lot more hands-on and we’ll demonstrate the physics. Understanding how to make that work for, not against, you is vital. I plan to get Nina to show some tricks for using brain, not brawn, since not everyone has the luxury of a huge weight advantage in their favour. There’s no need to be a feather-weight pro model to fly.
This series will provide an useful addition to face to face training with the ability to revise easily and quite probably fill in a few gaps. For those who can’t get competent 1-2-1 tuition and will try anyway, this course will provide the most in-depth guidance available yet. We hope that it will prevent a few mistakes for those determined to go the ‘trial and error’ route. I learned my art the old-fashioned way and we have a huge number of highly experienced people pass through this flat, so the sum of that knowledge should provide something of great value to you.
UPDATE:
I’d like to thank you for the massive interest Part I has attracted so far. It’s breaking all records already and we haven’t even had it running for 24hrs! Anyway, I’m sure what you really want to know is when we will be getting down to some proper hands-on suspension tutorials. The answer is: We are shooting on the next part on Sunday.
In Part II, Nina will demonstrate the engineering of suspension using the ‘Postman/Running Man’ position as a practical example. During this process, you will learn about:
- Planning the suspension
Rope and body control under load
Tie-offs both to your rig and the harness
Properties and functions of primary and secondary lines
Aesthetics and variationsIn addition, there will be a section on the physics involved. Don’t worry you won’t need a calculator since I actually show how a suspension if affected. It’s all about how to work safely and efficiently with minimum effort.
By the end of the next part, assuming you are able to tie a sound gote, you will have a good grasp of how to perform a simple but very elegant and flexible suspension. Not only will you be shown the steps in great detail but you will also understand the why and wherefore. Having this insight will help you tie more safely and allow you to become more creative. We want to build confidence on competence, not ego. In short, to not only know what you are doing but also why.
Please don’t skip any of Part I as it lays a foundation by giving definitions and summarising many vital aspects. This will make sure we are talking the same language so that you know what we are talking about.
Your feedback and suggestions are welcome. If we know what you want or what we might have missed, tell us and we will do our best to add it.
