A few weeks back I had a message asking about doing a workshop in Peru. My interest was especially piqued when I discovered the location was Cuzco, not far from Machu Picchu which has been on my ‘bucket list’ forever. Nina and I agreed we had to make this happen, regardless of whether it was economically viable. Luckily, the world got out and a second invitation came back, this time for Buenos Aires. Things were looking up. So, it’s shibari South America for us!
After some internet sleuthing and juggling infinite airlines and dates, I finally found affordable flights with decent durations and civilised times for the round trip of London>Buenos Aires>Lima>Cuzco>Lima>London. AirBnB will take care of accommodation where needed. We already have a nice little apartment with a pool in Milonga for £35 per night so we should be well placed for seeing some tango and bringing on the meat sweats at the local parillas.
Our first stop will be Buenos Aires where we will be running a workshop and doing a show over the weekend of 20-23 October at Kinbakumania Dojo hosted by Camelia Tsubaki. Contact her for details and booking.
Mid-week, we will head off to Cuzco in preparation for our workshops in Pisac organised by Paco Kinbaku. Again, details and booking by direct contact.
Before going home, we’ll be in Lima for a few days as we have some private tuition to do there. We plan to make this as much about rope as about holiday. After too many trips where all I saw of the country was from the back of a cab on the way to or from the airport, we are determined to leave a few days to explore and enjoy the places we are going. A bit of research, combined with the local knowledge of our hosts, should provide too many choices 🙂 I’m intrigued to read on the Manta Trust website that there is “strong evidence to suggest a seasonal manta migration along the coastline” of Peru. I have to say that diving with massive mantas would make my day.
