What a week! Getting on for 40 reels of rope shipped this week so far. That’s 8km or 5 miles in real money! Jade Rope seem to be doing tremendous business through their worldwide network of suppliers since they accounted for a large part of the order. The rest was mainly accounted for by regular orders by Mauikink in Hawaii, Justine & Juliette in Sweden and Jakara Rope in good old Blighty. Judging by the number of repeat retails customers and the great feedback I get, they must be finding the same. My rope really does seem to sell itself. Of course, I’m not resting on my laurels. I’ve been looking for even better products. Every time I seem to get closer to that perfect balance of softness and durability. As I’ve always said, rope is like tyres. You can get sticky ones. You can get long lasting ones, but never both. You also tend to get exactly what you pay for. As much as we love the finest Japanese rope, it is fantastically expensive and becomes unbalanced and opens up in no time unless you maintain and re-twist it fanatically. More durable ropes require a bit more treatment and breaking in. I am now getting samples that are far closer to combining these ideals than ever before. Watch this space!
