A red version of my Tossa 6mm
The batch of the new red jute shibari rope has just arrived. This 3,000 meter delivery is from a new supplier and a little different from the other coloured rope that I recently introduced. This a double yarn rope, in 8m hanks, that is almost identical to my natural Tossa 6mm in every respect, except that the dying process makes it as soft and flexible as the wet-treated version. Given that the standard Tossa has always been a best-seller, I couldn’t say no to having an equivalent in red as well.
Specifications
As you can see from the photo below, it’s a beautiful rope. Due to the light, it looks a little less vibrant and more burgundy than in real life. However, the header image is much more accurate.
As with all rope, treatment is recommended to improve the feel and prolong its life. That said, this doesn’t need wet treating, just dry. In fact, there’s so little fuzz that burning off is virtually pointless, so you could just oil and use it.
For the nerdy amongst us, here are the specifications:
- 21.5g per meter
- 3-stand, 8 double yarns per strand
- Medium to hard lay
- 6.3mm before stretching or burning off
- Very clean fibre, almost hairless
- Supplied in 8m hanks
As the rope is made from dyed yarn, the colour is even and vibrant throughout with no patchiness or ugly dye penetration failure.
You won’t pay more: 8 ropes for under $120
The good news is that you won’t pay more for the new red rope than you would for a standard Tossa. A full set of eight untreated ropes is under $120 or $155 for dry treated sets!
In fact, the dry treated red rope is cheaper than wet treated natural Tossa! The difference in feel between wet treated Tossa and the dry treated red rope is negligible since the dyeing process softens the rope.
More single yarn 10m dyed rope coming
The existing range of single yarn 10m ropes, in ten colours, has been selling like hot cakes! Some colours have sold out completely and I have an inbox full of messages enquiring when I will have more in. The good news is that I have ordered a lot more, plus their multi-coloured rope, which is on its way to me right now. I hope to have delivery within a week or two.
