In the latest delivery was an experimental batch of 10,000m of rope made from some pre-waxed double twisted yarn. The idea was to create a rope that came pre-treated and wouldn’t need any treatment. It didn’t turn out exactly that way though. Initially, the rope feels extremely crisp and even makes a lovely creaking crunchy sound when you manipulate it. It takes a bit of handing or running through a ‘biner to reduce this but after that it is certainly very usable. However, after washing, it’s superb and comes up beautifully with a spot of wax. It has more body than the Lite but it’s only around 15g per metre, so about 120g for a 8m length. It still has a slightly crunchy sound but I expect that to disappear with a little more use. I’ve only done a teaching session with them so far. I can see that it is rapidly developing a nice patina. It is still very pale after waxing and singeing, although there’s so little fuzz that burning was superfluous. I think this will be another winner and could easily be the best yet. The fibre is as pale as the Asanawa and has almost no dark fibres. The odd few that exist are very unobtrusive and are certainly not big lumps of bark. It’s in my eBay shop now. Treated versions available soon.
As a lot of people ask about rope colour and comparisons, I produced the chart below with most of my rope types side by side in untreated form. The Pre-waxed Blonde is 3rd from the bottom.
