I expect, like us, you have been deluged by emails about GDPR. Ironically, the new legislation, designed to reduce spam and give you more control over personal data, is producing even more dull and unwanted emails! We are sorry to have to add to them but it’s the law.
Anyway, I’ll keep this brief. In short, GDPR covers:
- Processing data requests (“right to be forgotten” and “right of access”)
- Freely given consent to send information via email
- Handling data sent to third-party services (subprocessors)
- Ensuring you know what data is held, why and what we do with it
You can find this site’s updated Privacy Policy here. Our other sites also have updated privacy policies.
There seems to be a vast amount of confusion about exactly how this is all to be implemented and the effects are very far-reaching. However, to set your mind at rest, we never sell your data or allow it to be used by any third party for anything other than essential purposes, e.g. accepting payments. As we use hosted solutions for our shops, school and membership sites, these all have introduced updates to incorporate the new requirements. As a result, you’ll see new pop-ups and options to keep you informed and to allow you to manage your data and email opt-outs even more easily. Thankfully, much is handled by the third parties such as BigCommerce, PayPal, eBay and Amazon who have extremley robust systems and the resources to ensure everything is fully compliant.
Many of the third party updates have been very eleventh hour so we are doing our best to incorporate them to ensure we are fully compliant. Due to running multiple sites on different platforms with complex integrations, this is no mean task, especially for very small businesses like ours. Be assured we are doing our best and will do everything to ensure you are happy with what we are doing with your data. If you not happy for any reason, tell us and we will get it sorted.
As you will already know, if you are on one of our mailing lists, we send out a newsletter about once a month and emails to keep in touch with our students at ShibariClasses. We are doing our very best to make sure any unsubscribe requests don’t slip through the cracks but it might take a little while to get everything running totally smoothly. We want to make it very clear how you can unsubscribe from the mailing list, so we have put a big button below but we hope you appreciate the value in the articles, enjoy the news and love our special offers, so we hope you don’t want to leave.
