July’s BOUND was as busy as ever, which was a very pleasant surprise given we are in the middle of ‘silly season’ when events are ill-attended due to holidays, festivals, being too hot for rubber or leather and many other reasons. Of late, we have been consistently selling out so it looks like we have a winning formula. Our mission to broaden the audience seems to be paying off as we constantly see new faces, many of whom are not on the usual fetish/BDSM club circuit.
As our venue, the Flying Dutchman London, has just been granted a licence extension with flying colours, our host, Antonio, has promised an upgrade. I haven’t asked about all his plans but I do know that the stage lighting and sound system are being improved significantly. This should help eliminate the comedy of errors with the audio that seems to have become a tradition but I suppose we will still get performer’s iPhone’s or tablets locking themselves at the crucial moment 🙂
We are making our own improvements to the stage and kit. Our original set up has suffered the ravages of time and the kit has been decimated by people ‘borrowing’ items and forgetting to return them. Now we have a large locked case with every cable, reel of tape and stage dressings that we need. Frighteningly organised, eh? The coloured back-lights have all been replaced with units that are 3 x more powerful and we will be updating the panels with a new design. Things will be looking even better soon.
Anyway, Mo and I have been busy editing and uploading the videos and photos (also on the BOUND web site) we took of July’s BOUND. The stars of the night were undoubtedly Pedro and Maya Homerton. He’s a veteran of shibari but not that well-known generally as he is that rare animal, a nawashi who doesn’t shamelessly self-publicise. He is certainly very unassuming and almost shy but probably has more experience than any other westerner having been taught by Akechi himself and by Osada Steve, amongst others. GluWur, an artist and performer from Barcelona, put on a stunning self-suspension show entitled ‘Femme Dummy’, Fred Hatt & Miss Bones, our local stars, went from strength to strength and MaestroBD from Rome as we have learned to expect came up with a typically creative show.
Don’t forget, the next BOUND will be on Fri 4 September and you can get your tickets here. Remember, we have been selling out so don’t leave it till tomorrow, do it now!
