Posts are likely to be a bit sporadic as we are taking a break in the back of beyond with very rudimentary services. In fact, where we are staying is a few kilometres down a track which you find when you pass ‘the back of beyond’ and is not named on Google maps. It’s not even a one-horse town, as I think the donkey is on time-share. In other words, we are totally free of the distractions of London which is exactly what was needed. I managed to get a SIM card which gives us some Internet access but anything more that short posts will have to wait for our visits to town and full WiFi access.
We were met by Maya, in spite of her car self-destructing en route and another having to be found, at Gibraltar. Within 30 minutes, we had wound our way up the mountain to Betijuelo, a hamlet of half a dozen houses which included Maya’s casita and our new home for the next few weeks, nestled amongst palms and cactii with views of miles of sandy beaches and the mountains.
Anyway, fast forward to the rope as that’s what this site is supposed to be about. It wasn’t long before Nina had her ropes out and Maya thoroughly hog-tied (I’m sure it has some uber-cool Japanese name but I haven’t a clue what it would be). As they say, a rose by any other name doth smell as sweet. For the moment, you will have to satisfy yourself with the header photo as my data allocation is pretty slim. Furthermore, I need to download some basic editing software as one of my omissions was forgetting to load up anything suitable before I left. I suppose it was inevitable that I’d forget something. It could have been worse. My main worry was not being able to make some progress with editing ‘Ground to Air’ but that seems to work fine albeit a bit frustrating without my big dual monitors.
Maya has had to return to Seville for the week. However, she will return, with a couple of other models, so we will start shooting in earnest then. I have brought a light-weight rig for the DSLR which incorporates follow focus and a magnifying viewfinder for sharper focusing. The brief tests that I have done are very promising, so hopefully we will see a big jump in production standards. On the ‘Coast of Light’ and with my new LED camera light, we will be able to shoot at low iso for optimal quality.
