Last night’s BOUND was one of the best yet. We have not seen such a full house since the Festival, nor as many nationalities represented. We had visitors from Austria, Romania, France, America, Germany, South Africa, Spain…and those were only those of which I was aware. It seems BOUND’s fame is spreading. There were certainly a number of unfamiliar faces and, judging by our conversations, ‘virgins’ who had just become kinbaku converts. We were delighted to see Dr Phil from France, who had taken the opportunity to grab some leisure time as a guest rather than tutor or performer.
There must be something in the air as more people than usual seemed to be tying. It was hard to know which way to look as there was some much good stuff going on. In fact, we even delayed the start of one of the shows as half the room were transfixed by a suspension going on at the opposite end to the stage. The evening comprised five shows, kicking off with an energetic self-suspension by Rope Boy accompanied by Christian Tan, aka The Naked Cellist, on (the name gives it away) cello before moving on to a sensuous session by Nina with Maya. Next up were Docvale and Tyka. Let’s say, this is a man who knows how to take the best of his partner’s assets 😉 You’ll see what I mean when you see the video. We then had an immaculate show by Osada ryu instructor, Vinciens with his partner Kenyade. To close the evening, there was Fredd Hatt and Miss Bones or as Mo would have it, ‘Mrs Bones’. Is there some change of status we of which we are unaware? Regardless of which, Fred certainly pulled a great show out of his Hatt. He is certainly coming on by leaps and bounds.
As I write, a web cam capture of the evening is rendering in preparation for upload so you’ll be able to see the performances for yourself. When I get a moment, I’ll start editing the high quality video from my DSLR. With Ground to Air full production, it means that these jobs have to be slotted in bewteen unless I can delegate.
