Why Should I Buy These DVDs?

Why, indeed? For a start, they are probably the most comprehensive and accurate English language guide yet produced. If you are interested in learning shibari as it is performed in Japan by the experts, this is the series for you. There is little that is not directly from the methods of Osada Steve and Kinoko Hajime, whose own style owes much to the grandfather of shibari, Akechi Denki. Unlike most tutorials to date, you will find minimal influence from fusion, Japanese-style bondage or other western variants. Furthermore, they break new ground by being as much about the ties as how you apply the rope. Many people are unaware of this vital aspect that is so central to the whole ethos of shibari, let alone are aware how to achieve it. This series is for them and those who have already discovered this but wish to develop this talent.

Why not learn from one of the excellent books on the subject? Certainly, a book might teach you the mechanics of knots and the ties but diagrams and text can be hard to follow. However, the construction of ties is only a small part of what Japanese bondage is really about. What is important is how it makes your partner feel as you apply those ropes.This is best taught by demonstration. Books teach wrapping parcels, these DVD’s teach tying people.

Of course, you can like I had to, scour the internet for information, then try to sort the wheat from the chaff and pick up what you can along the way from whoever looked like they know what they were doing. In those days, unless you read Japanese, this was about the only way. I can honestly say that those five years or so were mostly a waste of time and I only really began to learn when I first went to Japan to see Arisue Go. I wish I could have gone earlier or had the advantage of a resource like this, which is a a faction of the cost of even one hour’s tuition.

After developing a taste for capture and tying up games in early life, I graduated to bedroom bondage and discovered Japanese bondage in the late 90’s. An initial course with Midori was later followed with study in Japan with Arisue Go and continues to this day with Osada Steve and Kinoko Hajime. This means that you can be sure that you are getting it straight from the horse’s mouth and that the techniques will be those the professionals in Japan are currently using. Over the years, I have performed at dozens of venues worldwide, including some of largest fetish events, e.g. Toubaku (Japan), Torture Garden (London/Athens), Wasteland (Amsterdam), Nuit Demonia (Paris), Rubber Ball (London) and my work has appeared on TV and in numerous publications including LOVE and Vogue magazines. I have been running regular classes for well over five years in the UK and internationally. All the shows, classes and private sessions must add up to thousands of sessions and that is a lot of experience from which to benefit. The result is a wealth of tips and tricks that it would take you years to learn otherwise, taught using teaching methods successfully proven with many hundreds of students. This is the next best thing to having personal expert tuition and an invaluable revision aid for those that have.

Of course, the all important subject of safety is covered in depth, from both sides of the rope, with advice on early warning signs of trouble. There is an extremely easy to understand guide to avoiding that trap for the unwary, nerve injury. This is a subject much alluded to in safety instructions but rarely explained. Where the nerves are usually most vulnerable is pointed out on a real person, so there is no need for a medical dictionary or a PhD, and you are left in no doubt about how to minimise the chances of injury. This is a subject every responsible tier should understand fully. Esinem’s Nerve Damage Study, which investigates the causes and solutions, has already become a world-acclaimed reference work translated into several languages. So, who better to explain the mysteries of this least understood and all too common injury?
